The report begins: "Security forces loyal to Libya's Moammar Gadhafi unleashed heavy gunfire Sunday on thousands marching in a rebellious eastern city, cutting down mourners trying to bury victims in a bloody cycle of violence that has killed more than 200 people in the fiercest crackdown on the uprisings in the Arab world."

Comments

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

I see the Libyan news agency is trying to link unrest in North Africa to an alleged Israeli plot to destabilize North Africa. I knew that crap was going to surface sooner or later. Blame it on the Jews! Isn't that always the mantra? And how about the price of oil? This civil unrest will drive prices skyward and affect the world's economic recovery. Big oil and their lackey, the Repugs, will be screaming for more drilling to insure our "oil independence." Ha. What a joke! We need to be truely energy independent by fast tracking development of alternative sources or we will continue to be held hostage by the whims of OPEC and the strong winds of chaotic Middle Eastern politics.
