Jeffrey Fleishman writes: "'Kadafi's biggest mistake was that he built his whole regime on pure fear,' said Omar Amer, a member of the Libyan Youth Movement, a protest group that spreads its message through Facebook. 'He totally abandoned civilizing Libya. He neglected education and development projects. He left the majority of his people in the dark ages and built his might on fear through torturing and killing political dissidents in public. But the fear that Kadafi built his empire with is gone, and that was his last shelter,' Amer added."

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

Now word is being spread that what is going on in Libya is the reason for the sudden jump in gas prices! What a crock! The oil companies use every excuse to jack us up! Besides that, it's just another example of us being held hostage by them. Considering what a monster this guy is (novody even can agree on how to spell his name0 why would we be buying oil from his country? If we aren't then the excuse for raing gas prices is just another example of corporate greed. Well, look who lifted the sactions on Libya (Dubya) and you have your answer. God Bless the people who have the courage to take on those who destroy or attempt to destroy their freedoms! GOD HELP AMERICA!

While watching the events unfold in Libya, I wonder what the United States can learn. Kadafi's regime was built on fear. Since 9/11, and in the wake of the collapse of communisim that once loomed over us, the United States seems to have turned to FEAR as a prime motivator to justify it's diplomacy abroad and to justify underminig American individual rights.

Kadafi abandoned civilizing his country by neglecting education and other development projects. The United States has neglected educating our young people. The charade of "No Child Left Behind" was a feeble attempt to look like the government cared, but quickly unravelled into a heap of standardized tests and other requirements that smothered the ingenuity of our teachers and made mediocrity king.

Kadafi left his people in the dark ages. The United States seems to be pushing our citizens back to the dark ages, politically. Instead of promoting a healthy national discourse, our leaders have shovelled rancid sound bytes down our throats, eroding the ability of our citizens to make informed political decisions. Many politicians from the right wing have even gone so far as to suggest that if we don't agree with THEM, we are un-American.

Kadafi's fear-fuelled empire is crumbling. Can the US learn from his mistakes?

People of the World UNITE!
The Government-killing people are our common enemy. Illegal wars (Vietnam) Iraq (where we found no Weapons of Mass Destruction and which was started under false pretenses) are draining us dry. Support our troops!= Bring them home. Send Mubarak-Walker and his rich cronies, Mubarak, the Quadaffis (father & son)and all other misery-creating people who govern us to H.E double hockey-sticks.
