Intro: "Palestinian militants in Gaza have fired dozens of missiles into southern Israel in what appears to be their heaviest such barrage in two years. About 50 mortars were fired - two Israelis were hurt, Israel says. Israeli tanks later shelled targets in the coastal strip, wounding at least five people, Palestinian officials say. The Islamist group Hamas, which runs Gaza, said it fired some of the mortars. Three days ago an Israeli air strike killed two of its members."

RSN Special Coverage: Egypt's Struggle for Democracy

Comments

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

I don't believe "Palestinian militants in Gaza have fired dozens of missiles into southern Israel". There have been scores of such "attacks" over the years and no one in Israel ever gets hurt. Once a farmer twisted his ankle because of one of these attacks. Israel uses the "fact" that someone got hurt as an excuse to launch major airstrikes and artillary salvos all over Palestine destroying yet again its infrastructure. It's a lousy trade off for Palestine and they are not that stupid. We are stupid if we believe this stuff. It's a false flag attack.

Agree, motamanx. There is little that is believable when it comes to Israel - or the U.S. Israel is always looking for an excuse to attack just about anyone in the territory. Remember when Israelis were caught in Gaza sending out the missiles themselves? Bet if we looked deep enough we would find that Israel is at the root of the "rebellions" in Libya, and elsewhere. With a bit of help from our CIA, of course.

What would we think if we saw a 200 pound bully beating up on a ten-year-old kid? Would we make excuses for the bully, and hand him a gun? Or would we be outraged and step in to protect the child? Would we look the other way, or would we demand justice for the victim? Israel has become our big fat albatross and its time to cut them loose and let them fend for themselves. The Palestinians are penned up like cattle, and Israel murders them with impunity. With a new Egypt, and hopefully a new middle east to deal with, they will find it harder to get away with their brutality, and if the US government quits coddling them, they will be forced to negotiate in earnest.

Is the U.S. truly coddling Israel or is Israel that skinny little bully punching and threatening with their own guns and special ops. Look up how many members of the federal government have dual citizenship with Israel. Easy to do. They have far too much power. Check out Kissinger, especially.

For Motamanx and genierae:

Israeli sites near the border are always "hardened" -- schools and hospitals are built underground and many homes have hardened sleeping quarters. This accounts of the lack of Israeli casualties. But Gazans, not necessarily Hamas enthusiasts, have been firing hundreds of small missiles at civilian targets in Israel since the Israelis evacuated Gaza.

Both Palestinians and Israelis have done plenty of awful things to each other -- witness the recent slaughter of two parents and three of their children (aged 11 years, 4 years, and a few months old) while they were sleeping -- and this provoked a public celebration in the West Bank as Palestinians publicly took credit for the murders and applauded the murderers for the killing of toddlers. Are you willing to protect Israeli children from not just bullying but murdering attackers?

You are right that we should not defend Israeli brutality but you are ignorant or inconsistent if you believe that Palestinian brutality is less objectionable.

Inason - Let's be clear about who has the biggest guns and the most power. Let's be clear how one form of brutality begets an opposing brutality. Let's be clear who has the rocks and who has the cannon. Let's be clear about how many Palestinian children have been shot or bulldozed by Israeli military, and let's be clear who helps fund Israeli brutality: the United States Of America.

There may be Palestinian brutality of late, but it was spawned by the original brutality of those wishing to establish an exclusive state sans long term residents. Oh, and lets not forget Israel's 18 year occupation of Lebanon and the (now known) wars actually started by Israel.

I have relatives in Israel, and believe me, Israelis do teach hate. Hatred does spread to others. You may think the bunkers in Israel are for the protection of Israelis, but it is just as much show for the so called victimization of Israel as it might be for a major invasion by a totally debilitated neighbor.

December 2008 - January 2009 Attack on Gaza
ifamericansknew .org/cur_sit/dec08.html

313 children killed out of 1417 (mostly civilians) murdered by IDF. We are giving over 3 billions to these war criminals.
These children were killed by US made bombs, helicopters, jets.

Israel is acting like an abused child.. It's been abused and like a child without therapy, it's taking it out on those who do not have the same toys as they do.. Palestine is a jail... And if you get beat enough, you'll do some thing about it and not sit with unreasonable people and work it out. They want the Palestinians out. Hell Lee,if you got beat and your kids got killed... You would be singing a different tune.. Unless your of course a Buddha.. Above it all.... I have a friend from Palestine,he has a story of begging for his life, they taking all his money, property and then begging them not to kill his family and he finally escaped through Egypt to here.. He's a good man and architecture... There's bullies every where.. Some are just mental bullies.. Safer on paper..... garyray ^i^

Yep, Gary Ray, you have pointed out who has the biggest guns and who is doing who a favor by existing - and being the biggest U.S. military base on the planet.

Brutality does come in different forms and much of it around Israel is their stealing water, burning orchards, eliminating entire villages, eliminating schools and jobs... etc. big time.

I wish the Israel People would leave the Palestinians alone, once and for all.

I am neither, but I think for a People, rich in culture, it is time to start acting with the Compassion that you Preach of and ask for.

We are making this situation worse, I believe the Palestinians are Martyrs for all they have taken. If their is Hatred in these People who could blame them. I have seen 50 years of killing on both sides. Let them have their Strip, for a Nation who boasts of Democracy, put your actions where your mouth is.

If things go south in these other Countries, Taliban get control, God Forgive us all.

If I was to close an Industry today..Ammunition/Weapon, next Nukes.

Get your fists up and fight like you mean it. Stop Killing Children
