This is the article that has caused the uproar. General McChrystal clearly showed 'poor judgment.'

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

Just fire the sucker and let it go at that. He should be lucky he will collect his big military paycheck. That is more than a young GI badmouthing his commanding officer will get. If he is lucky he will get discharged instead of a court martial.

Generals are immune to that. Welcome to fairness in the USA, folks.

I don't know why you're getting thumbs down on this. You are absolutely correct. An enlisted man would be looking at as 'less than honorable'. Not only will this guy get a great pension, he'll probably hit the lecture circuit. Plain and simple folks, what this guy did was conduct unbecoming.

I have to laugh! Obama is the "Supreme Commander", OK tha't the way it is. He's got no clue who his new general in this useless war is. And all of America and it's lopsided writers knock Adolf Hitler for making some wrong decissions, after winning some wars in perfect fashion.
George Patton, the best general America ever had was also critical of the government. He was assassinated by the CIA, then it was easier, this administration and the last one are sorry they can't do this now.

Gee, and I thought old blood and guts (his guts, their blood), George Patton committed suicide because the war had ended and he wasn't the prima donna any longer and created his own death!

At least McChrystal didn't go around slapping shell shocked troops although he didn't mind the slaughter of innocent men, women and children, like in Iraq and now Afghanistan.

Also, the "Supreme Commander" doesn't need have to a "clue" as to "useless" wars as long as he has common senses sensible military advisers. Alas, all the smart ones in the military were either forced to retire or drummed out by none other than that Vietnam War deserter, GW Bush, and his 8 times draft dodger, Dick Cheney and Donny-boy Rumsfeld.

What was left for President Obama are gun-ho, brainless, egotist military men who only look for the next promotion medals! That is why the US keeps losing the wars of attrition and the bankrupt of a nation that goes with it.

I think McChrystal wanted out. Simple as that. And, I also think that he cannot put his prejudice against non-warriors aside long enough to think clearly. This isn“t the first time he has stepped over the line but thank God, it will be the last as a commanding general. I am curious what he will say as a civilian about our tan president. The US has not traveled as far as it thinks when it comes to color-blindness. If Obama were white, this would not even have been an issue.

..and to top it all, we now have the GOP and it's TEA Party, neo-cons, fascist right wing conservatives, Christian rights groups and half of a brain-dead, racist dim-witted US population doing their best to destroy the US just to prove that a black president cannot govern. They have never forgiven the country for voting a black president in time of drastic change!

Common Sense is way off the mark. A professional soldier serves his Commander-in-Chief regardless of politics. He is free to retire, or even refuse an order and face the consequences. McChrstal got off easy. He has disgraced himself and his command. Obama had no alternative, and this guy brought it on himself. Any officer making public statements of this sort under Bush would have deserved the same. A soldier doesn't have to agree with his commanders, but he'd damn well better obey them. Anyone having served in the Army knows full well that McChrystal crossed to very clear line.
