Report begins: "President Obama on Wednesday will make clear that he opposes any compromise that would extend the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy beyond this year, officials said, adding a populist twist to an election-season economic package that is otherwise designed to entice support from big businesses and their Republican allies."

As we've witnessed over the last year, the Tea Party is comprised of mainly middle aged and older white Americans. If you know one (I know a few and offer my condolences) ask them a basic question that I've used that works pretty well. Say
"do you believe things in the United States, in terms of jobs, educational affordability, infrastructure upkeep, the ability to own your own home, time to spend with your kids etc. was "better" in the 1950's?" I can virtually guarantee you the answer to your query will be a resounding YES! Then ask those same people if they know what the Federal Income Tax structure was in the 1950's. My "Bagger" acquaintances were in the dark as to the answer. So give it to them. Tell them the upper class bracket was 70% or more! Tell them how Saint Reagan slashed it in half and explain how the free fall in quality of life began at that moment and if it hadn't been for running up enormous debt on little plastic cards many of us would be living in the "projects."

Exactly David. Further, the tax on wealth under Eisenhower was 90% and there were plenty of rich people then. Obama enforcing the terms of Bush's temporary tax decrease is constantly refered to as an increase...when it is no such thing. It was not Bush's intent for it to be permanent. What this 3% adjustment will do is merely bring the tax on wealth to about half of what it should be.
No matter what, it seems that it is the middle class, such as it is, will once again be paying for the irresponsibilit y of the elites. "My mistake: you pay for it." That seems to be their motto.
