When I retired after an honorable career during which I solved a few problems, improved a few operations, and created no great messes, I had a farewell party. No golden parachute, just a few beers and some cold cuts for me and my friends. But, do you know? I was happy. And I'm still satisfied. My digestion is fine. We might be nice and hope that Mr. Hayward also feels good about things and enjoys his food.

I had serious anxiety about poor Hayward’s future. Now, that I know that Hayward will receive a year's salary of 1.045 million pounds ($1.6 million) and an annual pension of 600,000 pounds and under a long-term performance program he may get several million pounds more, if BP's share price recovers, I feel much better. His “unemployment insurance” policy must be outstanding!
