"Instead of 'gay marriage,' said US District Judge Vaughn Walker in a 138-page ruling, there is just marriage - and everybody is entitled to it, no matter what gender they and their would-be spouse happen to be."

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

While I find homosexuality distasteful to say the least, I do agree that those who identify as such are entitled to the same rights/privileges and hardships as everyone else. Furthermore, since there's no legitimate reason to deny gays the right to marry, there is also no reason to continue banning plural marriages among heterosexuals as long as all parties involved agree to such a marriage. The government regulates too much in areas that it shouldn't and fails to regulate in areas that it should.

Reverand Mohler's concerns are out of line. Homosexuality isn't about morals at all. One is or one is not a homosexual. No heterosexual ever made a moral judgment as to what their sexual orientation was. To permit gays to marry is not a loosening of public morality in the least. It is merely permitting them the right to be who they were born as and to enjoy the benefits of marriage that any heterosexual couple get to enjoy. If anything, it is an elevation of marriage to recommend it as a choice for any two consenting adults who love each other and wish to make a lifelong commitment. Gays marrying harms no one and will have no consequence on any heterosexual's marriage what so ever. To love deeply, honestly and with a desire to commit for a whole life time is a beautiful things that should be denied no couple due to sexual orientation. If this flies in the face of religious tradition...tough. Marriage does not belong to the church. It belongs to those who love, period.

I am old fashioned person. Homosexuality is not only distateful but also an unnatural act.
We humans should take a lesson from the animals. Have we seen any homosexual animals? They act according to the nature as they do not have the brains.
We should use our brains and determine what is good for the humanity in the long run. There are limits of individual rights for the sake of good and clean society.

What has "old fashioned" person have to do with the issue? You should do your research perhaps. OTHER animals do indeed engage in homosexual acts if not ALL other animals.

Actually, yes, you see homosexuality in many animal species, including many mammals.

Also, what is "unnatural" anyways? If something happens in reality is it not natural? I don't mean good or bad, but natural as in real.

Reminds me of another California popularly passed referendum from the 1960s which banned any legistlation protecting equal housing opportunities for all racial & interracial buyers. That was later struck down by the US Supreme Court because it was also against the 14th Amendment...

As Judge Walker's decision says, "rights are not subject to election results...[they are fundemental and rooted in the Constitution]"
