We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.
General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.
Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

as for your addiction, good luck with that it makes you just as blind and jaded as the ones you condemn...
wake up people...sheesh
I also wish that Mr. Sevareid's former boss, the legendary news giant - Edward R. Murrow, was around now to see and comment on his greatest disciple (in my humble opinion) - Keith Olbermann's show.
yes, I agree: it is a classical publicity ploy to raise declining MSNBC ratings. Good luck
WELCOME BACK KEITH, I love you! Thank you Mr. Griffin, you did the right thing.
On the other hand, we're sort of looking forward, in a perverse sort of way, to watching how "Tan Man Boner" & "Chicken Neck McConnell" try to fend off the Palinistas & tea partyers, including the Paul & Son wing-nuts!
Nevertheless, we ARE getting SO tired of seeing official roadside signs here in the Washington, DC area blinking msgs like: "Got a Terrorist Tip?! Call [insert phone # here].
Any & everything to "KEEP FEAR ALIVE!"
Perhaps the saddest part of ALL this is that the amurrikans who'll suffer the most fm 2 more yrs of total govt gridlock are the ones who just voted FOR it!
Proof once again of the truth behind the adage: "If you want it bad enuff ... you'll GET it bad enuff!"

The firing of Keith Olberman was purely an act of partisanship. I wish Rachel Maddoow and Chris & Matthew would have left MSNBC in solidarity for Olbermann.
consider what 200,000 Liberals can do to get progressive legislation by threatening boycotts of John Boehners sponsors in Ohio like Wendy's restaurants and Smuckers Peanut butter and PReserves.
See http://act.ly/2ly
and send Boehner some mail.
A very good point! Progressives - and Americans all - need to wake up and realize the people power they could, CAN wield, if they ACT! A nation is only a democracy to extent that its citizens inform themselves, then ACT - participate in order to bring about that informed "will of the people." Even as we speak here, democracy is fast slipping through our fingers, and most Americans haven't even noticed!
What a terrific opportunity for a public, FOX/MSNBC simulcast debate on the purpose, merits and influence of a 'free' press between Murdock and Griffin with Moyers, Olbermann, Maddow, O'Riley, Hannity and Limbaugh as commentators and questioners ... or maybe brought to you satirically as a full hour presentation by SNL
You can't have a good debate about a free press without Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! As a journalist, she is a real American hero who has neither pandered nor caved in to the powers that be.
I also signed that petition and want to join the rest of the folks in welcoming back KO.
Isn't it odd that 'W'will be hawking his book on NBC this Monday while Mr.O was suspended last week & will be reinstated on Tuesday?
In other words, the Bushes & friends - some in GE - removed the titular head of the 'LLLiberal' (as papa pronounced the word with disgust on his face) voices on NBC,to clear the way for 'W'.(By the way, isn't it also odd that the Bushes despise liberals such as FDR,but embrace Communist China. This was the advice of Prescott Bush Jr.,not to be confused with Prescott Sr.,whose business assets were seized by FDR in 1942 for trading with Hitler.) - the Bush family loves,in a business sense,Communist China. Have I confused You enough? It's all about money folks - a Plutocracy.
Now,what will be the state of mind of Mr.O? Will he bow to his corporate paymasters,or will he come out with thoughts blazing?
Yes I know this thought of mine is a stretch, but so was that 'Magic Bullet' in Dallas 11/22/63.

At present, MSNBC is a much-needed counterweight to F*x News, but it is far, far from the equivalent of F*x news. Slanting the news is one thing; making it up is quite another. I'm a grown up; I know Olbermann has an agenda, and he's hardly disguising it.
Question is, what agenda is Comcast/GE/NBC hiding?
continue speaking the truth and looking for the snakes hiding under the rocks, waiting to devour our democracy.
I would suppose you are referring to Supreme Court Justices Scalia & Thomas who have taken trips on the dime of corporate entities on which they, later, rendered opinions involving said entities. Odd, isn't it, that in both instances they ruled in favor of their corporate hosts?
Perhaps you were referring to Bush & Cheney both of whom profited from this needless war on an uninvolved nation in the terrorist attacks on our nation on 9/11. BushII's profit was more indirect. Cheney's profit was a direct deposit in his bank account as he put his Haliburton stock in a trust and made money with every 'No Bid Contract' given, basically, to himself by himself.
Our military personnel and innocent Iraqis died or were maimed while B & C made $$$.
You are 'Right.' It's OK to break the rules if you are popular - or powerful.

Jylian, I agree with you that many of the arguments put forth here did not address the issue of whether Mr. Olbermann committed a minor breach of his contract, and if so whether indefinite suspension was an appropriate remedy for that breach. Apparently Mr. Griffin thought that several days off was reasonable, so I don't think there is any evidence that Mr. Olbermann was reinstated simply because he is popular. It seems to me that the suspension was defensible, and the reinstatement reasonable. Remember the definition of suspension: it is not the equivalent of termination. The fact that the posters here were very emotional does not negate the reasonableness of Mr. Griffin's decision. Ashy also had some good examples of the principle you noted.
Could the GE brass be doing Bush a ceremonious favor,by removing the most Liberal voice on NBC/MSNBC prior to Bush's appearance on the Today show? Will Mr. O 'Kowtow' to his paymasters or will he come out,Liberal ideas blazing?
Yes,I know this is a stretch, but so was the 'Magic Bullet' on 11/22/63. Was this all coincidental,or is conservative political muscle being flexed here?
I personally hope Keith reacts with a Liberal amount of spit & vinegar. Although it could be a blow to the Liberal Cause I would applaud Mr. Olbermann if he told GE/NBC to 'Take This Job & Shove It'! If Mr. O took Maddow & O'Donnell with him, he would truly shatter that NBC camera lens.

I watch Keith Olbermann every night, because I know Keith will report the facts, and back them up with where they came from, and if a mistake is made, it is always brought to light and an appology is given. Keith is very passionate about his work and his beliefs, and I appreciate that very much. I will continue to watch him along with your wonderful team that presents real news and real stories, obviously not scripted or demanded by their bosses.
Kudos also to the really great daytime hosts, as well as Ed, Rachel and now Larry, who has brought a whole new educated side to your lineup.
...Ernest Hemingway...
Hemingway was right, we 'sort of do need heroes'...and it definitely is harder, as we grow older, to 'find' our heroes! But I found a hero some time ago, when I started watching MSNBC's journalist/commentator and sometime raconteur, Keith Olbermann. Therefore; I was quite upset when the disappointing news broke that he had been suspended! Today I'm glad to see that MSNBC's Griffin 'heard the petitioner's' loud and clear, had second thoughts, and decided to call him back 'where he belongs'! Now, all is forgiven! We should all give a hero's welcome back to K.O. this Tuesday evening by uttering an audible *Bravo* to our TV screens when he appears back in his rightful place there!
I have been involved in a lot of campaigns to save endangered species' land and keep big business from owning it. We have signed petitions and miraculously they have worked. I have been surprised how strong a petition can be in trying to change things. So I'm going with the petition. But I'm just happy to see him back on the air, because I enjoy watching MSNBC so much and boycotting was sad for me.
Ridiculous that Keith O. or anyone has to have permission to contribute according to conscience, when Monsanto, BP, and the military complex gets to donate secretly.
My view: He's an American, certainly as American as any corporation granted citizenship by SCOTUS.
Along with that freedom comes the ability to private donations to the causes we believe in.
Go Keith!
Sanity We Believe In
During the written intake process I was asked my gender. During the oral follow-up, I was verbally asked "What was your gender at time of birth?" To say the least, I was surprised.
Apparently transgendered human beings could have hormonal changes that "alter or compromise" human blood. A new twist from previous donations but, nevertheless, a safe-guard for blood recipients.
Right or wrong, such is the realty of the 21st century.
I would propose that many current internal rules established to deal with corporate concerns are archaic measured against 21st century reality.
It appears the parent of MSNBC--NBC and General Electric--are classical cases of distorted and faulty perceptions of today's America.
Let all America be proactive rather than reactive to changing industrial and societal norms.
And that includes GE and NBC!
No one should have to eat political humble pie for supporting a candidate, but it is surely is a bad meal to have to eat for being stupid.
Courage, determination, and devotion to real, true investigative reporting needs immense rewards and praise, not firing.
I am not a Keith Oberman fan BUT I do not believe that a suspension was in order here for what appears to have been a personal choice of support for a candidate's bid for public office. I do believe that Keith - on the few instances that I have watched his show - is very consistent with his views and opinions with regards to both wars in the Middle East, the Republican push for power, and other major news worthy events. I can appreciate those who deliver the news to us who remain true to their beliefs and any attempt to silence them because of something as insignificant as a political contribution is utterly rediculous. One word comes to mind that Keith said when responding to the statement that Pat Sajak began his career - BULLSH*T!
