The report begins: "Senate Republicans threatened Wednesday to block virtually all legislation until expiring tax cuts are extended and a bill is passed to fund the federal government, vastly complicating Democratic attempts to leave their own stamp on the final days of the post-election Congress."

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

All those people who voted against the Democrats in the November election because they were angry at the economy or worried about jobs--what were they thinking? They voted for Republicans who will now block the extension of unemployment benefits and extend tax cuts to the richest Americans.

That's just the thing, they +weren't+ thinking. They were listening to Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh.

I think it's a great idea for the GOP to hold the entire political process hostage so that the wealthiest 2% of Americans can get a $700B tax break. After all, what's more important extending unemployment benefits so that people can eat, or giving the megarich enough extra money so that they can spend a few more weeks sailing the Caribbean?

It's about time Americans see the GOP/TEA/Me Party for who they are:
A bunch of political hacks beholden to special interests who have no sense of what's good for 98% of our country.

"In a gentle way, you can shake the world." - Mohandas Gandhi

A new political Party

I have created a LEGISLATIVE only political party. You remain in your party and also join ours to get needed legislation.

We the people of the United States of America form this Liberal Democratic Party of the United States of America for the promotion of a progressive agenda for America.

We generally support the progressive and liberal candidates that run in the regular Democratic party. We do not run candidates. We do not handle money. Our power comes from the unionization of our party members who tell GOP contributors and other regressive contributors that UNTIL you get the House and Senate and the President to enact our party platform at the present point into law YOU will lose our business as consumers. By doing this we avoid petitioning a corporate corrupted congress and go to the source of corruption and pressure them for the legislation under threat of massive boycotts.

To join us go here www.democratz.org and send some emails and get others to go there. If you like this message then Join us.

Intransigence is a game two can play. It would be grievous to lose the repeal of DADT and the DREAM Act in the lopsided 112th Congress, but if push does come to shove in the lame duck session, the Democrats could also sit down and let the scurrilous tax cuts expire for everybody. The unemployed will suffer badly for the intransigence that is letting their insurance payments expire, but they won't pay much tax on zero income. The jillionaires won't feel any difference in their taxes since their "income" is finagled into the 15% categories anyway. Obama is trying too hard to be a statesman while his opposition is a gang of mafiosi.

As an alternative to the bill with tax cuts for everyone except the top 1%, give the Regressican'ts another bill with a HUGE TAX INCREASE on the greedy rich, and tell them they have a choice ... let the rich pay _some_ tax, or let them pay EVEN MORE so they'll pay down the national debt faster. Include a _2_year_ extension on unemployment in a third bill that cuts ALL taxes for anyone making less than $35,000 AND includes a _slightly_ higher tax cut (but nowhere near as big as Bush's) for the greedy rich than the Democrat's current bill.

Let the Rethugliecons block legislation until they get their way. They can freeze the whole shooting match as far as I'm concerned, and all over a temporary tax decrease that they agreed would only be temporary in the first place which they now want made permanent. If they want to cause the further erosion of our country's well being so that they can line their pockets from revenues that they are not entitled to keep let them go on record then as shoving a middle finger in the face of the American public. Instead of Obama getting all the blame I think the real culprits will become more abundantly clear. Let them go from the Party of No, to the Party of I Got Mine so Screw You. Let's just call their bluff and be done with it.

The Republican party is in menopause;
Harry Reid needs a large dose of testosterone; The president needs to pick up the tools of power;and the American public needs to get po'ed and demand that the lousiest group of Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats we've had in my ninety years, to resign.

WE NEED ANOTHER AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.

Enough of this war on Americans.

Pass everything possible in the House during the lame duck session(public option?)and let it stack up in the Senate. Then make the Republicans actualy philibuster every bill, exposing them to the "American People". Also msm (or rsm!) please list every Democrat who votes with Republicans and every Republican who votes with Dems on every major vote. Thanks.

Those Conservative folks down along the gulf coast voted for years to reduce government and now they want the government to help them. The Gov. should say help yourself or get BP to help you...that's the system you wanted, now shut the hell up! No body in this country pays any attencion to what a corrupt kleptocracy we have become.

I want everyone who voted against extension of benefits because it makes people who are on unemployment want to stop looking for work to quit accepting pay for 99 weeks and live on nothing but unemployment checks and see how "easy" it is to get along. How many could afford could to stay where they are, would they waive healthcare benefits during that time and accept medicaid and food stamps(if they can get them) also and really try to live like real people or continue to sit in Congress without a clue?On their future pension and lifetime benefits Senators and reps have nothing to lose for life they can afford a cavalier attitude...me, I got another story.I thought a bipartisan meeting at the White House was supposed to indicate a desire for more cooperation and out pops this statement one day later. Boener must be on a money high 'cause he's ingesting money like a college kid with a beer funnel in his mouth during pledge week, only he's stand in front of a corporate contributor with an open checkbook and not a keg with an open tap!

Please excuse all the typos and bad grammar in the last email. I was thinking faster than I could type and forgot to edit. :(
