Robert Scheer begins: "There is no three-strikes law for crooked bankers, not even a law for a fifth strike, as The New York Times reported in the case of Citigroup, cited last month in a $1 billion fraud case."

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

Frankly, I'd accept virtually any punishment if I knew that the sentencing (or non-sentencing ) was not paid off with campaign bribes. And all of the laws that were broken likely resulted from the lifting of the Glass-Stegall law in 1999, which was indeed a corrupt action by our "esteemed" congress. You know, the a**holes we elected to protect us.

Lifting the Glas-Steagall was a joint venture between Gingrich and Pres. Clinton. Both betrayed us by loosing the dogs of Wall Street to wreak havoc upon homeowners and everyone else. Putting this back in place through HR1489 is our only chance. Pressure your "reps" in Congress to do this or their days of feeding at OUR trough will be over.

+9 # jlohman 2011-11-14 05:52
Indeed, but let's not give the R's a free ride on this. Campaign bribes bought an 80% vote on this.

What the hell happened?

The U.S. Congress has 274 members left that would possibly vote, for the people, and I’m betting the people could not get 4 votes from those 274 members.

Number of Millionaires in Congress: 261
For Congress, debating the extension of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans is personal.
While the base pay for members of Congress is $174,000, nearly half -- 261, to be exact -- are millionaires, according to an analysis of 2009 data from the Center for Responsive Politics (there are 535 total members of the House and Senate). Just 1 percent of Americans overall can say the same.

I read a factoid today that half of Congress (both houses) is in the top 1%. It may be more.

Thank-you California Attorney General Kamala Harris for standing up for America, and Americans.

You are a true old-school Patriot, in a nation filled with officials who are sell-outs to corporate fascism.

This action makes you a very truly historic person.

I want to find out more about Kamala. As I read this, it suddenly hit that here could be exactly who/what we need to take on OhBombAh in the primary.

Would she be willing to declare no to anything but $100 dollar or less donations to her campaign, and take a lie detector test (real McCoy polygraph, no Diebolding) as she announces she's running, and periodically thereafter when doing interviews?

We need for a real people serving female candidate the Tea Party's female female puppet whores, i.e. $arah, Mishillgame, etc.. What's Kamala's stand on war, war, war for oil, oil, oil, police state m.o., etc. etc. etc.?

Sing along to the tune of Yellow Submarine...!

OHHHHhhhhh---

'WE ALL LIVE IN A CORPORATACRACY, A CORPORATACRACY, A CORPORATACRACY..'
WE ALL LIVE IN A CORPORATACRACY, A CORPORATACRACY, A CORPORATACRACY..'

SMALLER-GOVERNMENT---> Less Government (of the People) through Less Regulation (of run amok big Corporations) and Less Taxation (of the 1% Global Corporate Wealthy Class) and the relentless Fragmentation of OUR Government into a million bits and useless pieces through For-Profit Corporate Contracting of almost all Government Functions '''IS''' the biggest Flim Flam in Human History and '''IS''' the underlying cause of MOST of OUR collective American Problems today. And whether Occupy Wall Street realizes it or not, it ''IS'' the primary underlying reason for this growing, outrage and PATRIOTIC EFFORT TO SAVE AMERICA..!!
The never ending, relentless Corporate CONservative drive for ever SMALLER-GOVERNMENT ''IS'' directly responsible for the massive transfer of Wealth and Power from 99% of AMERICANS to the 1% Global Corporate Wealthy Class which apparently claims some sort of Divine Right, BirthRight and/or Snob-Right to seek Dominion over EVERYTHING through Lobby, Contract, Media Propaganda and Outright Lies and Manipulation AND TRANSFORM OUR COUNTRY INTO SOME SORT OF CORPORATACRACY OF, BY AND FOR THE GLOBAL CORPORATE..!

I agree, with the following exception: to say they are building a corporatocracy, is an understatement.

I say, they are not going to be happy until the have returned us to FEUDALISM.

(what does that backtrack amount to, something like a thousand years?)

Obama has sided with the enemies of the American people (Banksters, et al) and should be impeached except that the Repukes would not act against someone who has been so good to them. Thank God there are a few attorney generals in this land who have not forgotten who they owe responsibility to protect!

I've been killing myself pointing it out, and being insulted here for my trouble!

We DESPERATELY NEED a Democratic Party Primary! At the very least, barring that, we need to leave that party and go Green, or something new.

Along with what you say we also need accountibility from congress to hold these banks and the SEC accountable for taking our money and then letting the banks go with no fear of repurcustions or any jail time, they stole our money..

Agree. Read "Occupy Mandate: Oust the Bums!" on RSN, 12 November 2011.

Then, look up the99declaratio n.org

We need an Occupy Party and we need to begin working on building one now, as it will take time and organization.

Thank you, Ms. Harris, but it's so odd that in this climate, with the people uprising against the entire corporate-fed government, that a sitting president, looking to get re-elected by the very people who put him in office in the first place, would PASS UP the opportunity to do one of the biggest things he promised to do: STOP THE CORRUPTION!! HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE!!

When he gave immunity to Bush/Cheney, I knew we were in trouble, but it just keeps getting worse and worse.

I don't trust him OR anyone in the present federal government to do anything that would truly benefit the people of our country.

OUST THE BUMS!!

We must keep pressuring the federal and state governments to prosecute these criminals. There are a few that want to prosecute like Harris, the people need to support them and encourage them. We have made small victories...poco a poco, little by little, we can enlarge these victories. The people have awakened and things are starting to happen. Several states are contemplating creating state banks and taking state monies out of the big banks, more and more co-operative businesses are being created and people are getting our into the streets more and more. Thank you OWS for leading the way!

WHY would Obama do this---let the banksters off-the-hook-----UNLESS he's been bought-off?? Accountability in our country is in a very deep grave. At least the California AG has the guts to say "NO WAY!" If these bankster criminals get away with this one (looks like they already have), you can bet they will do it again---maybe worse than 2008---sometime in the evil future.

Three cheers for Harris.

However, regarding the California three strikes law and the related story about the criminal who stole a slice of pizza from an outdoor diner, the victim was just a little kid.

I support locking up an offender and throwing away the key for even a second offense involving intimidation, force, or violence by an adult against a child.

Thats how the states are set up, even if a man is hungry, if it is their third strike they will go back to prison for life....cost more to house them for the rest of their life....makes no sense to me either...

+4 # boudreaux 2011-11-14 07:44
That is all it takes for the third strike in these states who have the third strike and I think that is most of them. One more crime, no matter what it is will send you back to prison with a life sentence, no holds barred....even if you are just hungry and don't have a job...

Kamala, I hope you won't be remembered for just making a 'better deal' with the Banks to expedite a (political?)'settlement'.

Fundamentally it is immoral and illegal to compensate the Banks for their predatory loans and fraudulent practices. They have criminally failed in their duties to use due diligence and discretion in creating these toxic mortgages, that they knowingly knew would fail. These are actual felonies committed by the banks...They should NEVER be swept under the 'deal making' table! The Banks should be prosecuted fully...as they are crimes that brought this country down to her knees in suffering and in need!

Compensating the Banks for their crimes by allowing foreclosures does NOTHING for this economy.

Stopping foreclosures keeps families in their homes, as well as being the main back stay to revitalizing this Economy. There is NO recovery without it!...

The choice is SIMPLE and CLEAR:

It is either giving the Banks what they want, or re-building our ECONOMY. That is what the Public, the Attorney Generals, as well as the Judges must hold to be true...

If Kamala holds her course, she will be known as an 'Untouchable' Public Official. That is, one who can't be bought.Let us hope this proves to be true.

Win It All

Actions of conglomerates
You know, corporations rife
With greed that’s sucking out
All financial life

Of middle-class Americans
The elderly and the poor
But, insatiably …
Do they always want “some more”.

From Koch brothers, life suffers
From funding that which kills
Democracy and decency
For profits that fill their tills

And we stand here leaderless
Our congress a sycophant
Providing corporations
With whatever they might want

Tea Party: Corporate dupes …
And Democrats spineless be
Jobs is what we need
But Congress won’t agree

The only hope we have is:
“Occupy … this and that”
For without those noble efforts
America will go flat

And still it is our pleadings
There on deaf ears fall
If there is no response:
Corporations win it all.
