Just like the Right...use people, then just drop them. You can NEVER trust the "new" Republican Party. They are all greedy crooks.

Speaking as a Coast Guard enlisted retiree, I'm concerned. We all put in our time; any where from 20 to 45 years (limited to 30 years now) in good faith. They owned us 24/7 by 365 for the duration. In return, we and our dependents got life time health care and access to commissaries. This was in part, to make up for what was traditionally low pay.
And for those of you who think it's a lot of money, as an E-7 my highest pay was around $35,000 one year, including Sea Pay and Housing Allowance.

Now they're talking about increasing our cost share for medical coverage and reducing access to commissaries.

So much for gratitude, so much for service, so much for a social contract.

Youngsters, remember this when the recruiters come with their sweet lies.

They use you, then they discard you. This is a tradition as old as armies, and far older than the U.S.

...and the right has the nerve to chant "Support Our Troops" while cutting benefits to the troops and their families. It doesn't get said often enough that if the Pentgon raised pay by 50% but cut waste their over all budget would decline. I know from managing budgets that employee costs take the biggest bite out of any budget but how we pay service men and women is a disgrace. In essence, cuts to their benefits means that it is they who must pay for the Pentagon's fiscal irresponsibilit y. A patriot would object, but then how many of these are there actually?
