Donna Smith writes: "Right now, it doesn't really matter to me what dysfunction of our political system caused the failure - again - of the bill that would help the 9/11 workers still suffering."

When did our consciences become so brittle, so arid and so hardened, that we could tolerate the neglect of compassionate and comprehensive care for the men and women who were injured by their selfless sacrifices in coming to the aid of the injured in New York on 911? For shame. Any extended silence on this issue condemns us as a nation. It will prove that any claim to greatness we ever had was a fraud.
We must do better. Call your senators TODAY!

This failure represents a new low in a body that knows no limit to its spite. It's evil enough to dump legislation that would improve socioeconomic conditions for the nation in general, but to deny medical help specifically for heroic self-sacrificers who helped everyone possible, in total disregard for themselves, during the 9/11 debacle is a new record for sleaze. It should have gone moved, seconded, passed unanimously without the sick sabotage which now is the Republican hallmark.

Couldn't agree more with all of the above! This cruelty run amok by the Republicans just to try and bring down our President is just inexcusable and I cannot even begin to guess what we are going to do about this but we had better do something and do it NOW!

I completely agree with Regina and could not have said it better. I wonder if all Americans are aware of the Republican agenda to lie, deny and obstruct. Anthony Weiner's valiant speech on the floor of the House so eloquently echoed the feelings of all New Yorkers who lived through 9/11 and the ensuing days and weeks of horrendous grief. We must implore all of the Congressional leaders to lead their colleagues and pass HR847 for the welfare of those who heroically ran to rescue and help their fellows.

And the republicans claim to keep us safe???????????????
They are all talk and no constructive actions.

They are only obstructive and negative.

The only patriotism the Repugnicans in Congress believe in is Patriotism for Profit. And Patriotism for Power. Never forget the Bush Administration's endless, years-long, lies about Lower Manhattan & Ground Zero NOT being toxic sites after 9/11. That's what made it easier to sacrifice the workers without properly protecting them.
