Excerpt: "It was my friend that spilled the glass of wine on Tanya [Beck] - and I can assure you that it was a complete accident.... Incidentally, none of us have made a career of 'spewing hate' on the radio, or any other media platform.... We don't taunt Glen, or his family. And we certainly don't waste our wine, even on Tanya."

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

What a teapot: Glenn Beck and hateful New Yorkers. I'd pour both down the drain.

Beck and his ilk have annihilated reasoned political discussion, showering us with ongoing fear, lies, and hatred.

And hateful, rude New Yorkers cast a cloud over the many wonderful New Yorkers I've met and know.

Creeps.

"Please, [please, please, don't ever treat anybody like that." So, don't say the kinds of things you say about our duly elected President, about Nancy Pelosi, about Hilary Clinton, and about all the other people about whom YOU spew hatred.

"Knock it off, just be cool, " instead of passing on your hateful diatribes.

I JUST DON'T GET HOW PEOPLE CAN STAND EVEN LISTENING TO BECK. HE IS A RAMBLING, FEAR MONGERING, RELIGIOUS HYPOCRITE BONEHEAD, DID I SAY RAMBLING?, WHO ONLY APPEALS TO THE LIKE MINDED SIMPLETONS WHO CAN TAKE LISTENING TO HIM.

IF HE LIVED IN NAZI GERMANY, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN HITLER'S DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS.

Wah! Wah! Wah! America’s Bawling Bigot presents his fictionalized version of what happened in Bryant Park. As for "These people [being] some of the most hateful people I had ever seen," Mr. Beck should rescreen some of his own performances, like the ones where he calls Obama a racist or compares him to the Nazis.

Welcome to the world of hate, Glenn. You are a big part of creating it. It's easy to spew your venom within the safe walls of your ivory towers. And you make millions doing so. Those "rude New Yorkers" do not. Stick to Netflix.

+6 # Pickwicky 2011-07-02 08:04
GeeRob--please don't elevate Beck to the 'ivory towers' (our colleges and universites). The only tower that dumbbell occupies was built by the three little pigs.

Reminds me of the article I read on Michelle "Batshit Crazy" Bachmann and her reaction to having a lesbian constituent and a nun follow her to the ladies room after a public appearence (I believe she was just a state rep then)only to ask her why she was such a homophobe. Poor little Michelle said she feared for her life and screamed as loud as she could that she was being held against her will. Paranoia must be the exclusive mental illness of the right. Why do these purveyors of hate and intolerance who claim to love America so much, but clearly hate the vast majority of Americans (those who don't share their perverted worldview)?

+6 # Pickwicky 2011-07-01 15:24
Liberty--and add Palin to the list of crazies who preach hatred, yet scream and cry when their dear little selves seem attacked. (Palin frequently does this with the media.) This combination of hate speech and 'poor me' is as disgusting as it gets. Another ploy to get attention--attention they don't deserve.

It is truly amazing how you liberal thinking nuts go straight for the Hitler/Naxzi comparison, even if there is absolutely nothing there. So let me get this straight, it is ok for the Lame Stream Media to favor the left lunies, but when a conservative attacks you Progressives it is hateful? Seems the hate is spewed from the left, not from conservatives. I rarely listen to Beck, and listen to NPR daily to get your view on matters. Fringe nuts are fringe nuts (it seems most of those post here regularly). Hard intelligent back breaking work doesn't deserve to be compensated? I guess if you do nothing because of what ever your reason you should get something from those who get paid well? What is that called? It must have a name. Being charitable through taxes is rediculous. Charity, donating to causes of the less fortunate, is a choice and should not be mandated by any government. Unfortunate people do not have a "right" to be cared for by taxing others. Get out there in the real world and work hard and employ people, then see if you want anyone claiming they "deserve" a handout from the government!

This question from a "hard-working American" who has been LUCKY enough to never NEED charity -

Do you know what the money changers in the temple called Jesus when He turned over their tables?

Answer: A Liberal

(which is what He was)

+26 # GeeRob 2011-06-30 12:04
I doubt you listen to NPR. If you really did, your reasoning would have some intelligence.
Newsflash: It's the hard working people who aren't being compensated. The gap between the poor/middle class and the rich grows wider all the time.

+17 # Capn Canard 2011-06-30 14:55
Robt that is a sad and pathetic excuse of an argument. This I do know, Beck routinely likes to play the VICTIM. The problem is it is just play because he has never been a victim of anything but his retarded understanding of the world. He is very good at making subjective associations, but even most of these subjective relationships are imaginary at best.

Whoever thinks the rich don't take handouts from the gov't should read Dean Baker's "The Conservative Nanny State" and David Caye Johnston's book, I think it's titled "Free Lunch". The wealthy enjoy large subsidies at taxpayer expense and lobby for them shamelessly. Much more tax money is redistributed by the US gov't to help the rich, who don't need help, than the poor or middle class. The recent ludicrous sight of Big Oil execs pleading for an extension to their subsidies while they are making record-breaking profits is a case in point.

How about looking at the column entitled GOP vs. the World? The picture it opens with speaks volumes. There is a Tea Partier with a poster of President Obama with a Hitler mustache and stating the words impeach Obama. Who's making a comparison? Oh I forgot, when you're blinkered(look it up) you only see what is placed before you...by FOX NEWS!

+8 # Pickwicky 2011-07-01 15:44
Robt Eagle--I've worked hard all my life and so have my colleagues--mostly all liberals. I am proud to know some of my tax dollars go to helping people who are needy. In fact, I insist on my government's safety nets for citizens. It is the right thing to do. We live in a system in which some may fall on hard times, and not be at fault. Capitalism has it's ups and downs, as you may or may not know. It might be helpful if you "get out there in the real world." You might be horrified at the sight of America's hungry children.

Robt Eagle! You are named very aptly and clearly deserve it. It could be that I am an even fringier nut as I live in a way worse place than New York (on the political side) - I live in Switzerland, where citizens are called on to vote 4 or more times annually on nearly all issues and many rights. That means that it sometimes happens that extremely fringy types get out the vote for highly populist but unconstitutiona l proposals. This lets them air their anger, but not endanger the constitution. The posters and T-shirts can be pretty wild, as you might imagine. Women did - finally - get the vote (in the 1970s) and Muslims are - NOW - allowed to add a minaret to their mosque. Democracy can get crazy, hey?

If you're tempted to believe Beck, consider: why would anyone bother to throw wine on his WIFE when Beck himself was available? No, it's all another big martyr fantasy on Beck's part. But even if his account were accurate, I couldn't blame his "attackers" much -- Glenn Beck has spewed so many calculated lies and so much hate into the country that it's inevitable some of it's going to come back around to him.

Glenn Beck lie? Say it ain't so!

-17 # john rusnak 2011-06-30 11:42
Maybe I missed something but according to her twitter account (before it was frozen) was it not being talked that someone should spill some wine on Beck.

My guess is that Lindsey ain't as innocent as she claims to be.

Besides the point ....I read Beck, Maddow ,Rush, NY times etc....when I remove them from my decision making process I begin to think more clearly and make more rational decisions about what I want in my life. These people are experts at fomenting...both sides of the isle and in the end i see bad in good people and am left to wonder how in the hell I am going to live.

Examine your own life, do only those things you yourself could have done to you and be able to get thru any thing without further hate and you might be happy.

In the end those that start the riot fall.

Such BS that you include Maddow with this list, I have not heard her proclaim ONE hateful statement and is consistently KIND and RESPECTFUL. I dare you to find that statement from Maddow, john, list one irrational, bigoted, unfounded assertion. Go ahead and include that link john....

+8 # CTPatriot 2011-06-30 23:19
"They do it too" is just another BS tried and true tactic of right wing bullies and their supporters used to rationalize, dismiss, and or minimize the evil in their behavior.

If "john" were truly the open minded, unbiased purveyor of news that he claims to be, he would never have posted such "both sides do it" tripe.

Quoting
Get out there in the real world and work hard and employ people, then see if you want anyone claiming they "deserve" a handout from the government!

Interesting you should mention handouts from the government. Big Business has been getting them from the federal and state governments for years! What do you call not paying your employees a living wage and not giving them decent healthcare (even though they work a 40+ hour week)? These people cannot support their families on the pittance they are paid - then HAVE to apply for Medicaid or other govt. assistance...

These businesses deliberately pay such low wages to their employees because they know the government will pick up the tab for medical and food assistance. AND if that wasn't bad enough, businesses don't have to pay taxes on all that profit they are making. If they at least paid their FAIR SHARE the government could afford to take care of their employees for them. The oldest (profit-making/taking) trick in the book.

Pay people a living wage, give them access to decent healthcare and you will see this country (and economy) turn around in a heartbeat - and see a record number of people off Welfare, Medicaid and Food Assistance.

[quote name="Robt Eagle"]So let me get this straight, it is ok for the Lame Stream Media to favor the left lunies, but when a conservative attacks you Progressives it is hateful? Seems the hate is spewed from the left, not from conservatives.“
It just SEEMS to your paranoid, right-wing mind that the main stream media favors the left (why would they? Broadcasters are Big Business as are their advertisers) or that they spew hate. Harry Truman said, “I never give them hell. I just tell the truth and they think it's hell.” Likewise, the truth is so far removed from the right’s deranged fantasies that they just THINK it’s hate and lies. NPR is hardly a bastion of the left. In fact, they have bent so far backward to give the right a voice that I find it amusing they are getting kicked in the teeth by the right for their troubles (I’m no fan of NPR; they were a major force in suppressing LPFM, and they have destroyed the local aspects of public radio). And propping up scary straw men of non-working liberals who want your job and then pushing them down is scarcely persuasive, either. Every liberal I know is hard-working, except one or two who are out of work and actively seeking employment (no easy task thanks to the shambles Bush made of our economy), and donate valuable time to causes such as Remote Area Medical, the Red Cross and others. Conservatives believe “Greed is good.”

+17 # Capn Canard 2011-06-30 15:01
Well said, JohnMayer. I concur, my own experiences are not far removed NPR is not left wing, at best it is middle of the road. Beck and his ilk are not too far removed from a Joseph Goebbels level of propaganda in promoting ideas that will punish the middle class and easily benefit the wealthy. This is now the status quo and has been since 1981.

+6 # fredboy 2011-06-30 14:35
I think what all of us in the liberal and progressive camp need to do is avoid being apologists for the rude among us. We need to take the higher path, or we become the "them" we find so appalling.

+6 # feloneouscat 2011-07-01 04:13
Hmmm.... Beck needs to get out his blackboard and write down "You've made your bed now lay in it" (I was about to say lie, but he's been doing that for some time).

+6 # Interested Observer 2011-07-01 04:41
How Typical. Beck accuses this crowd, without factual support, of doing unconsciously and for free what he does every day for big money. The pot calling the kettle black with no kettle in sight.

Where would any of these goofballs be without promoting hate?

None of us were there, so all the harsh judging going on in these comments are just so much bs. However, Mr. Beck IS known for his hyperbole, and as I am a New Yorker and one of those despicable God-hating liberals, I think I'll come down on the side of Ms or Mr Piscitell.

+4 # Pickwicky 2011-07-01 15:33
65--'hyperbole' is a much misused term. It's a literary trope used to alert the reader to inflated nonsense. 'Exaggeration' is the better term. But Beck goes far beyond exaggeration. Beck twists and warps history and facts. I once listened to him try (and fail) to explain Decartes's Cogito ( I think; therefore, I am.) He was so far off the true meaning that I laughed myself into a coughing fit. I don't know if Beck is a fool or a knave. My best hunch is he's a lot of both.

In South Carolina liberals are often verbally and sometimes physically attacked by conservatives--as the history of the civil rights movement as well as contemporary politics demonstrates...One only has to mention Rep. Joe Wilson's unprecedented shouting at the President during the State of the Union address, the Republican leader who claimed that Michelle Obama was descended from apes and the almost daily racist attacks on the President and Rep. Clyburn...

Trust me, if those twenty-somethings really "hated" Glen-baby, he would not be around to tell the tale.
