I thought there had to be more to his resignation than tousling an aide's hair or making a homoerotic joke. Maybe this was the real reason, maybe not. I wonder if anything else might come out.

I just read a book called Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. Can't remember the auther, but it is the flip-side of this story, telling out those countries acquired those debts in the first place. VERY good read.

Enough of the hysteria; here's some plain facts:

The reason Mr. Massa -- and Sen. Chuck Schumer and lots of other New Yorkers -- supported this Argentina bill isn't for one particular "vulture" capitalist. It's for New York State. Period.

Turns out that so much of the debt that Argentina is threatening to default on is payable to (drumroll) big New York-based Wall Street banks. The net tax income to NY State from those repayments is in the hundreds of millions of dollars -- yep, you read correctly, hundreds of millions.

In a bankrupt state whose main source of tax revenue happens to be the fat cat bankers and too-big-to-fail banks, there's no question that the elected officials are gonna help out anyway they can. In this case, it was at the request of the Governor and leaders in Albany.

It's the same as if Congressmen from California sponsored a bill to help the massive movie industry collect some past-due receipts... oh, which they've done, too.
