Hertzberg writes: "Mark Williams, the Tea Party bigwig and 'conservative' talk show host, thinks he has found the smoking gun that will consign the NAACP 'to the trash heap of history, where they belong with all the other vile racist groups that emerged in our history.'"

Any group that has nearly two-thirds of its members self-identifying as "birthers" tells us everything we need to know about it without any further inquiry.

These days conservatives will accuse anyone of being precisely what they are but claim to forsaken long ago, maybe as long ago as 15 seconds.

Either Williams fails to understand what he is doing or he enjoys playing the ignorant fool. The remaining option is that he is an evil man.

Kal, I'll go with the remaining option. This man's intentions are as obvious as George Wallace's were so long ago. I had a "colored" friend who once told me that blacks had some respect for Wallace because he was open and above board with his racism. He didn't cloak it in an air of pseudo intellectualism . In my opinion, Mark Williams and his ilk are way more dangerous than Wallace was.

It's familiar old nonsense. Quakers are terrorists. Feminists are sexists. War is Peace. Etc.

truth is lies, good is bad, bad is good, ect.,. the typical Ronnie Raygun lingo!

Lies, deception, falsifications and jingoism have become as "American" as apple pie in the USA.

Lying is big bucks for the Republican Party and the GOP. They are relying on the ignorance, arrogance, fear and the TEA Party who in turn are relying on the near-lunatics xenophobia in the USA.

The best defense is a good offense, hence the reaction of the Tea Party groups to charges of racism. The obvious question, of course, is where these "Patriots" before a Black man was elected President? Under Bush we had Social Security, Medicare, Welfare. Bush initiated the TARP bailout. All Socialist policies demonized by members of the Bagger movement. I don't remember seeing mass Tea Party protests whilst Bush was enacting the Medicare drug fiasco. Listen to Rush Limbaugh, a fervent Bagger proponent, and tell me that Race is not a part of these people's actions. Now the Baggers want to engage in the victimization role that so many whites for decades have accused Blacks of. It ain't working.

The general phrase these days is "people of color", and that includes you if you want it to. The good people of the NAACP and other similar or supporting organizations can thoroughly explain the struggle for equality to those who are interested, but most of us have gained enough insight over the years to understand that the struggle is far from over.

The folks who clamor for the movement to stop or reverse are proof that they have no intention of playing well with "others", and by "others", I mean people who aren't like them (nationality, religion, gender, sexuality, politically, economically, the list goes on). Especially loathsome among them are those who make money by espousing their junk - and they know who they are.

I will self-identify as "progressive" because I want to help propel mankind toward a more "just" future for all. The noise of the racists is heartening because it demonstrates that they recognize that they're losing. The evidence is apparent, and it's everywhere now.

Methinks this is distracting and projecting. If we're all focused on Williams' rantings, we aren't talking about Republican obstructionism and policies that drove the country aground in the first place, not talking about how best to mend things. A bigot projects bigotry onto his opponents by accusing them of bigotry. Take note of him, then move on. That's my suggestion.
