Alvin Greene, the surprise winner of the South Carolina Democratic Senatorial primary, remains undaunted by adversity. The Guardian UK has published "The Alvin Greene manifesto for a fairer America." Greene begins by saying, "I want to represent South Carolina because I know millionaire senators in Washington do not serve hard-working Americans." So far, hard-working South Carolinians are listening.

Now that is a fabulous speech by a guy who understands the heart of both Jewish and Christian Scripture. When the alternative is Jim DeMitt, SC should do the right thing and send this guy to Congress. He's got his share of disabilities, but fewer than his opponent.

If you've heard Mr Greene speak, you'd know he did not write this article. It's really sad that SC Democrats do not have a credible candidate to vote for in November.

One of his very real disabilities is the fact that he thinks he can somehow do ANY of those things, all by his lonesome.

Electing someone who would trigger a trade war and eliminate financial institutions would be insane. If implemented, his "policies" would destroy middle America with higher costs for consumer goods and no access to credit and finance except the local loan sharks. His envy and greed and short-sidedness are remarkable.

If you read the article again you will see he did not say he would eliminate financial institutions. Most US citizens agree with him, "too big to fail" is too big, mega banks should be broken up. US jobs were allowed to be exported with no tariff penalties paid on products manufactured by these same US companies outside of the US. Now there is no industrial base in the US. That has got to change. Mr. Greene is talking sense. The status quo certainly is NOT working for the average citizen. In case you haven't noticed, middle America is already on the ropes.

If I lived in SC, I would run to the polls to vote for this guy. His rhetoric aside, his heart and mind are in the right place. If every senator's position was threatened by someone of Mr. Greene's caliber, maybe Congress would begin to look after our interests instead of their own.

He may not have written that himself but if the Tea Party types were talking like this we might see some real action in American politics.

I hope he knows how the Smoot- Hawly tariff act worsened the great depression. but I agree that the millionaires club in congress has got to go. If enough vote 3rd party newcomers... perhaps both dems and gop would fall. In alaska we did it once with the alaskans for independence party..Separatists beat the other guys. dj.

Sounds good to me. We've tried business as usual and globalizing all the formerly decent paying jobs from the U.S. Let's try taking care of our citizens now. Even China recognizes that nationalist interest includes full employment for your own people. So far, American capitalists aren't even that smart, or loyal to their own country.

I smile when I hear Alaskans talk about their "independence." Alaska is the most socialistic state in the union. I don't believe any other state takes money from their industries/companies and redistributes it back to the citizens. In 1996, federal spending in Alaska was 38 percent above the national average. Thanks to the late Republican Senator Ted Stevens, who was Senate appropriations chief for several years, and to the military, which keeps expanding its bases here, Alaska’s share now is 71 percent higher than the national average.

Sounds too good to be true.

After the last idiot in the White House, this guy sounds brilliant. At least he wants to represent the people (isn't that the definition of government) and he has a good heart. How refreshing.

Running a country is serious business. Keeping one's job as a Congressman is even trickier if one has to talk ones way around all the lies and promises one's made. Honesty is rare in Washington, it seems. Those guys must not even read the document they swear to uphold - or they boldly disregard it.
Disregarding electronic election fraud, this guy might appeal to enough of the folks he's counting on for support to get elected.

I say *go for it!*, sir.

I love this guy - I would vote for him in a second- we need more like him! People who aren't in the system and want to work for us!

‎"Healthcare, for free, for everyone." And just who the hades does he think is going to pay for this??? Oh wait, does he mean all the "haves" will pay for the "have nots"? Or how about, who's going pay my husband for taking care of you? "Where will the money come from?" - I didn't see him answer that, either. He's got a few good ideas... I just think he's going to see it doesn't work that way.

I recommend that Mr. Greene contact the TV show, 'The Colbert Report'. They would be likely to interview him, which would give him free air time to contact a favorably disposed segment of the voter population. I think Mr Greene needs to analyze his stance on tariffs a bit more and determine which ones would strangle our economy because they provide a needed component for our production, Finally, I propose to him that he should draft legislation that treats the race for 'green' technology the way we treated the 'space' race in the '60s. Just consider how much of our current technological superiority came from that effort. The return our country will get from that initiative will prevent us from sliding into becoming a second rate power.
