Elizabeth Drew: "Enough of articles and commentary propagating the fashionable view that the current Congress has gotten little or even nothing done. In fact, this has been one of the most productive Congresses in decades."

Complex problems require complex solutions!!! The price of freedom is eternal vigilance... and that includes taking the time to fully understand the issues, the WORK to find the solutions, the depth of commitment to understand that not ever solution is in YOUR "best interests" (e.g., paying taxes, joining the military, volunteering at the local charity, NIMBY, etc.), and courage to stand up and speak your mind.
IMHO, this is what OUR country, AMERICA, is all about!
How do 'Progressives' overcome the 'Right' of GLOBAL Corporations to use as much of their wealth and power to influence OUR Elections?
How do 'Progressives' overcome the ongoing, relentless 'FRAGMENTATION' of OUR Government and OUR control over it into millions of bits and pieces as Corporate CONservatives continue to get there way with less and ''Less Government'' through less and ''Less Regulation'' and ''Government should be run like a Business'' bullsh!t as they continue to contract EVERY function of Government out to Corporations?
It has passed a health care bill dictated by the insurance and pharma lobby.
It has shoveled bailout money into the failing private sector. At the same time, there has been little development of public enterprise or social investment, as required in a real recovery effort.
It has done nothing to stop the US drift into perpetual war abroad, and into repression of civil liberties at home. Drew nowhere addresses this aspect of Congressional incompetence.
Drew has partisan blinders. Democrats are also bought and paid for by private industry. The Republicans are just more open about it. Democrats use them as an excuse for why nothing gets done in the people's interest. Meanwhile, corporate profits are up, and employment continues to dwell in the doldrums.
