ust when I thought Rush Limbaugh could not stoop any lower, he goes deeper into the cesspool. I am an Oriole fan, I hate the Yankees with a passion, but when someone dies or has a tragic injury I still can show compassion for them personally. I wish that baseball wasn't dominated by greed. When I learned yesterday that the owner of the team I love to hate had died I was sad, and I will take this opportunity to offer my condolences to his friends and family.

What did Rush do within hours of his death? Call him a "cracker who made many blacks millionaires." He can say it was tongue in cheek all he wants, but we know it was race-baiting. He might have gotten a pass if this was his first tasteless, racist statement. But we have a pattern established over decades of racist statements.

For example, the statement that ended his brief stint with ESPN: "The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well."

"They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well," he said during a discussion of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. "I think there's a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn't deserve."

Or how about: "Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it," he said in 2007.

These are just a few from the sports world; lets go further back. A Google search of racist statements by Rush Limbaugh brings up more than I have time for here, but here are a few:

"Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?"

"The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies."

As a young broadcaster in the 1970s, Limbaugh once told a black caller: "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back."

In 1992, on his now-defunct TV show, Limbaugh expressed his ire when Spike Lee urged that black schoolchildren get time off from school to see his film Malcolm X: "Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out."

Once, in response to a caller arguing that black people need to be heard, Limbaugh responded: "They are 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?"

The list could go on and on, but we can stop there.

Ok, so we know Rush is a racist. Now how about a classless jerk, who hours after someone's death takes the opportunity to race-bait.

This is not the first time Limbaugh has made insensitive statements about someone's death. I had the honor of working with and learning from the late homeless advocate Mitch Snyder. When Limbaugh learned of Mitch Snyder's death he glibly told his listeners that, "Mitch had finally reached room temperature and no longer needed a home." I would have set my non-violence guidelines aside and punched Limbaugh in the mouth if I was in the same room with him then.

C'mon A-Rod, Jeter, or better yet CC Sabathia, don't let Limbaugh get away with disrespecting your boss. Limbaugh listeners, is this not enough for you? This time it wasn't one of us lefties. George Steinbrenner was a conservative-market Republican. When you support Limbaugh's show, you are supporting a man with no class who is a bigot.

I am a life long Yankee fan, but I have never been a big supporter of George Steinbrenner. But, Limbaugh's comments speaks to the worst in American society. This is the price we have to pay for the First Amendment. Perhaps the most shocking thing is that there actually are people who find Limbaugh credible.

Before Ronald Reagan came along and Declared-- ''Government IS the Problem'' and NeoCorporateCON S stepped into the the definition of 'IS' and began prying Americans away from a Government of OURSELVES and then declared Government 'EVIL'.., America has been on a 30 year long Deregulation Bender based on Corporate want and greed and little else.
We have allowed CONservatives to DIS-EMPOWER Americans through. Media Ownership Regulations were done away with and now, almost all Media Enterprises in America are owned by a very few Global Corporations which are politically self serving.

The Fairness Doctrine in Media was ended under Reagan, which ended requirements for equal time for opposing political views in Media.

Can you imagine Limbaugh having to grant equal time to opposing political views and having to debate them every day with people with brains...?

Words cannot express my contempt for that Fascist idiot, and I have actually taken to avoiding listening to him, reading about him, or thinking about him lest I throw up in public. What a hateful, spiteful, evil little being he is.

+5 # Guest 2010-07-14 14:08
I would like to avoid hearing about him too; but unfortunately other programs angrily comment on his rants, and the republicans are so scared of him, that no one dare go against him . They are so afraid of his nasty tongue that no one dare go on Hardball and say that he does not speak for them. It is more than a month since Mathews issued a challenge.

He is unfortunate proof of how unfair our legal system is. Remember how he had his house keeper buy lots of Oxicontin for him. If he had been a black man, his fat butt would be rotting in jail for many years. But he has money and a big megaphone, and so could hire a smart lawyer to keep him out. Still he has the nerve to go after other people with drug problems, saying they should go to jail.

"What a hateful, spiteful, evil little being he is." Well said Don. It's not weight or height that makes a man small but the breadth and height of his ideas. This is a verrrrrry, small man! Does anyone remember an old Twilight Zone episode with Theodore Bikel playing a hateful, spiteful little man who gets his kicks by writing poison pen letters and making incendiary phone calls in an attempt to root out "subversive" elements in American society? At the end of the show he is reduced to standing about two feet tall with his Parrot looking down rather menacingly upon him. If there's any real justice in the world......

Riddle: What is the difference between Rush Limbaugh and the Hindenburg?

Ans: One is a flaming fascist gas bag, and the other is a dirigible.

Rush is a man who universally holds people of color in contempt. The recent comment about Steinbrenner shows his disdain for whites as well. It was only recently he was interested in owing a professional sports team. I guess that would have fit well with his apparent slave-owner mentality. I can imagine him wanting a team so he could go about making it all white in an effort to prove his racist point of view. That man has the right to say what he wants but maybe he should lose his national platform. His words are fit for the worst of us, people who are unable to celebrate and respect all that is beautiful and unique to each of our cultures respective. Unfortunately, it pays far too well to depict everything as wrong instead of providing solutions to make things better.

As one who has worked in behavior mod programs in the pediatric levels of mental health facilities, the only way to extinguish child like behavior is to ignore it. Commenting on his ignorance and stupidity only expands his audience.
If Rush was literally a child we could take him by the hand, show him his destroyed sand castle and then work with him to show how much fun it is to build a new and better palace. Alas Rush is a child but chronologically not 4 or 5, so can we please stop commenting on his hissy fits?

+5 # Guest 2010-07-14 12:39
Implying that Rush is ignorant or stupid is an insult to ignorant and stupid people everywhere.
Sorry, I just couldn't resist the comment.

+2 # Guest 2010-07-14 13:37
The difference between him and a child is that he has a large audience that hangs on his every word. That makes it somewhat difficult to simply ignore him.

When you say you hate the Yankees with a passion, you are putting yourself in the same class as the "haters" you go after. After all, it is a baseball team, not a group of war criminals or people who discriminate. And I would say this even if you chose to hate any other team, not the one who played ball three miles from where I grew up. For crying out loud, baseball is a sport, not a war front. During the Viet Nam war, a friend who counseled college students in an anti war organization advised them to think carefully over whether they should demonstrate during the halftime at a football game.

"Choose your battleground," he said.

Why put your disdain for Limbaugh at the same level as your "hate" for a baseball team?

+12 # Scott 2010-07-14 13:05
I understand it is a game Delores. I think there is a difference between hating your favorite teams rival and hating players personally.

I was just pointing out that while I am not a fan of the Yankees or George Steinbrennor I would never be as tasteless as Rush and disrespect a man who just died.

I couldn't help noticing that Rush is leaving NY because of a tax surcharge on the super rich...poor baby wanted to get over $12 million for his condo, and only got just over $11 million. Now we will all hold our breath as to where he will finally land (probably Belize or some other tax haven)...certainly not California (full of lefties), not Washington DC (full of communists) or any northern city...anyone taking bets? Arizona maybe?

Limbaugh's main residence is his mansion in Palm Beach. Like other members of the super-rich, including Steinbrenner, he probably owns residences in several places.

Rush is terrible. I think we would be better off if we just ignored his stupid rants. He is an entertainer, not a news person. He is in fact a trouble maker. I will no longer read anything about him or by him.

+13 # Guest 2010-07-14 11:41
The fact that fat bastard even has an audience illustrates just how sick some quarters of this society are...just listening to the bastard is guaranteed to have a toxic effect upon the human soul.

I enjoy name calling and provoking people I perceive as pompous. Limbaugh has some real pathology which must appeal to others with similar multiple handicaps. I've already paid him too much attention. He is already in his corner and needs to do and say increasingly stoopit things for "the media" to notice.

+6 # Guest 2010-07-14 12:17
The "Best" day will be when he and those who sponsor him croak on his vomit.....Amen

+8 # Guest 2010-07-14 12:18
Rush speaks for tens of millions of racists all over the country. He's as disgusting as his fans, and that's why he makes $50 million/annum.

+2 # Guest 2010-07-14 12:39
thank God Rush talks to a fraction of the American populace. And that that fraction, though dangerously like the German citizens of the 30'S, will not become the majority of American thinking. That would render everything in the constitution NULL and VOID as it was in hateful Germany back then.

+6 # Guest 2010-07-14 12:40
Several years ago, Al Franken wrote a book about the extremist blowhard from Palm Beach, entitled "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot".. It was true then, and it's true now. The problem is that too many Americans listen to bigots, liars and hate-filled extremists. Sometimes it seems as if the country has lost its mind. Refusing to think for themselves, some people blindly follow hatemongers, naysayers and charlatans. It's a sad commentary on the country.

Less Government..!!... through endless Deregulation Schemes which benefit only Corporations, and a LOT Less Taxation of the Global Corporate Wealthy Class.
30 years of this empowering CONservative Flim Flam has left 99% of Americans in the dust and angry.
The anger is deliberately used, manipulated and misdirected by CONservative Global Corporate Media thanks to endless Media Ownership Deregulation Schemes which allows for almost All Media Enterprises in America to now be owned by just a very few Global Corporations and the mostly CONservative entities which control them.

We have allowed almost all Pipelines for Speech and Our so-called 'Free' Press to be owned by just a few Global Corporations. We have allowed CONservatives to do away with the Fairness Doctrine in Media so that it can be used 24/7 as a propaganda platform devoid of debate.

We allow Global Corporations to fund Our Elections.

WE HAVE GIVEN OUR COUNTRY OVER TO GLOBAL CORPORATE CONTROL.

For me the worst Limbaugh comment like this was when Obama rushed to Hawaii the week before the election because his Grandmother, with whom he was very close, was dying. Limbaugh insisted that it was all a ruse and that he was really there to fix his birth certificate because people were getting too close to finding out that he was really born in Kenya. Two days later Obama's grandmother died and that disgusting fat pig Limbaugh never apologized and never mentioned it again. Any doubt that he is a moral degenerate should have disappeared for everyone but he keeps rolling on.

The rhetoric I am reading here is just as vacuous as the subject person. Should any of you be serious about not supporting this blight then contact the sponsors and let them know you won't buy their product. The product could be a consumable or a philosophy. Just stop. He thrives on your energy and your participation.

You know Ralph, that's a really good idea. If we can force ourselves to sludge thru the muck of that show, make a list of the products that are advertising on his "show" and start writing to them all, saying are boycotting their products because they support this buffoon.

Rush Limbaugh serves an important purpose which is why he was paid $100 million dollars in Feb 08 by CBS to renew his radio contract. The politics of divisiveness or in simpler terms, divide & conquer. The fact that he paid Elton John 1 million dollars to perform at his wedding 6 weeks ago, proves that his talk is just that. It is also an interesting factoid that both he and Howard Stern share the same birthday. Personally I disagree with most of what he says but enjoy listening to him anyway because of his artfullness as an entertainer but that's all he is; nothing more & nothing less. His 4th wife was an event planner before their marriage, it will be interesting to see what event she has planned for him. It's called, Karma.

Tom.How do you expect me to believe anything you say??? I just read the transcript from the Rush Limbaugh show. I would at the very least ask you to HONESTLY report the story. I have been reading your blog for more than six months and have yet to see a truly balanced report. Remember the truth shall set you free.

Are you saying Rush didn't say what I quoted him as saying? I listened to the audio on media matters.

I thought Rush was going to move to Costa Rica (where child prostition is legal) if the health care bill passed. Unfortunately, the chubby blowhard is still here.

As insensitive as the NFL and the folks in St. Louis:

Limbaugh set to star in next series of "The Haney Project"
By Golf Channel Public Relations
Posted: June 17, 2010

ORLANDO, Fla. – Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh is setting politics aside for his other passion: golf. Golf Channel announced Thursday that the political lightening rod will star in the third season of the network’s original series "The Haney Project."

i must take what i call "the world view" of someone like rush, because his spew does travel around the globe and influences people in others countries. i appreciate those of you that say pay no attention to him, however, history is replete with examples of lies that self-perpetuate themselves and with time they become "the truth". albeit, this "truth" is a lie, but if it does not get refuted with as much or more ferocity as it is generated people slowly begin to believe it to be true and it becomes commonly excepted knowledge. before you realize it a generation of people have accepted the lie as truth and they pass it on to their offspring. not to mention how it gets ingrained in the culture and it's institutions, i.e. academic, social, economic, political, religious institutions, etc. this is one of the ways how peoples thought patterns and behaviors get influenced, conditioned, and manipulated. hence, you have a country with bigoted racists in every hamlet, nook, and cranny. i have more!

I am sure that Rush Limbaugh said all the hateful things you cited in your piece, Scott. I have no doubt about it. Rush Limbaugh thrives on hate, racial, sexist and homophobic agitation.

The problem is that America is denigrating, fast, into a place where the Rush Limbaughs of the world are having a field day and becoming very rich doing it.

We put up the President's picture beside Nazis. We can no longer talk to each other; only talk at each other. Reality TV trifles, and celebrity hate mongering fascinates us.

Lurid sex scandals come two and three a day, and we suck them up. The country is becoming a pavilion for the sale of used garbage. Rush Limbaugh is just a major shovel handler.

As difficult as it may be to get along sometimes, and no one is perfect, this lintball character utters subversive and anti-American twilight zone insanity that nary an individual can even conceive, let alone say, especially publicly for $$$ on $o-called "free" airwave$ corrupted by $upreme kangaroo court 1 owner in 1 market 3ple outlet-owned free market, free trade, free lunch letter of credit, get it back on the retail side "buy" out, especially the whole AM radio dial full of these losers. What can anyone expect from a worthless non-entity on dirty tax dodge and drug OPM who waves a plastic flag as a 2 time draft dodger, said deferments obtained for a cyst on his lower back while daddy, whose radio career coattails said non-entity rode, was on Cape Girardeau and environs draft board. A guy like this is called a pusillanimous public affairs puke; also, a "walt." One wonders how the US can maintain buoyancy when parasites like this extract $100s of million$ into billion$.
