Police State Much?

By Cindy Sheehan, Reader Supported News

"Totalitarianism is patriotism institutionalized." - Steve Allen

"atriotic" Americans are still berating me for "demeaning" my son's "sacrifice." A typical message goes something like this:

"Your son died to give you the right to spew your filth against this country. If it wasn't for the military and people like your son, you wouldn't have the freedom to protest."

Oh, really? If I have the "freedom to protest" then why have I been arrested so many times and why did I have a four-month restraining order from protesting near the White House last year that would have landed my buns in jail for six months if I violated it? Why are activists still be arrested for solely exercising what used to be our fundamental rights?

In fact, attorney Bill Quigley has documented that more than 2600 activists have been arrested since Obama was sworn in, in 2009.

The Constitutional Lawyer turned POTUS is committing atrocities against peace, justice and human rights at a pace that Bush and Cheney only dreamed possible. If Obama can't have one of us arrested or executed on his orders, then he will gladly diagnose our principled questioning as a mental disorder. Obama even told Steve Pelley of 60 Minutes that if any American dare question his obvious lies around the re-death of Osama bin Laden, then he/she should have "their heads examined."

I find it extremely interesting that the fundamental values of peace, truth, and justice have been turned into a mental disorder by the POTUS who, as I have pointed out before, has committed innumerable atrocities against these values. However, what I am finding increasingly alarming is the USA's rapid descent into a police state.

On June 7th, my sister and I were driving from Sacramento to Los Angeles on I-5 - this is a trip that both she and I have made dozens of times since my family moved near Sacramento in 1993. We almost immediately noticed the elevated presence of cop 'copters hovering over the interstate and over nearby communities. Neither of us had ever witnessed so many military convoys and such a police presence in any of the previous times we made the trip. We speculated what it could be all about and I even had to come to a complete stop on I-105 when it looked like a Los Angeles Sheriff's 'copter was about to land on the roof of my car. Hmm, there is definitely a shift happening, but it's often hard to pin things down.

Well, the very next day I learned about two events that shocked even me - I thought the Empire couldn't shock me, but I was wrong.

The very day that my sister and I were traveling the length of our gorgeous state, a Stockton, California man was having his door broken down by what he thought was a SWAT Goon Squad.

According to Kenneth Wright, a single father of three young children ages 3, 7 and 11; he heard some commotion outside his Stockton home, so he looked out his upstairs window and saw 15 cops that looked like members of SWAT. Before he could get downstairs to the door, they had battered it down and entered his home. Wright spent the next six hours handcuffed in the back of a cop car with his three frightened children.

Is Kenneth Wright the alleged murderer of thousands of brown people in the Middle East and North Africa? Has this scoundrel cheated millions of people out of their retirement/life savings? Did Mr. Wright authorize the use of torture, or even invade one country illegally?

No, of course not. It turns out that the cops who broke down Mr. Wright's door, brutalizing him and traumatizing his children, weren't local or state law enforcement, but an Education Goon Squad that had been granted some kind of vicious police state authority because Mr. Wright's ex-wife allegedly committed "fraud" on her student loans. How many of us have student loans that are in danger of being defaulted on because we can't find a job? The primary question is, though, why do most of us have to commit ourselves to years of debt to get a University education which should be free in the most wealthy country in the world?

The scandal of the rising cost and increasing inaccessibility of higher education can be directly related to the oppression and exploitation of the people that handle Obama like the Marionette that he is.

If the above story doesn't terrify you, then what about this one:

In the wee hours of Memorial Day, cops in Miami were involved in a high-speed chase that ended with the injuries of four innocent bystanders and the shooting execution of the SUSPECT. Witnesses to the crimes of the PD videotaped the entire incident and were then, themselves, subjected to police brutality as the Miami cops held guns to their heads and smashed their cell phones. Luckily, one of the victims had the presence of mind to secure the sim card of his phone in his mouth.

Ask yourself: "How terrified would I be if I just witnessed cops brutally shooting a man to death, then holding a gun to my head?"

Incidentally, the Miami PD has also recently been involved in arresting activists from the organization Food Not Bombs for having the audacity to feed the area's homeless.

The Robber Class obviously doesn't want hungry people fed, sick people healed, uneducated people schooled, homeless people housed, or poor people prosperous. Their agenda is total domination of the world's resources and complete income inequality in our own country.

The next time you fly and either have to subject your body to unacceptable levels of radiation in one of the Pervo-Scanners or get molested by the TSA - think to yourself: "This is how it starts - my nation is being turned into a police state with nary a whimper."

At least I loudly protest these violations when I fly, and I educate everyone within earshot (including the TSA) that Michael Chertoff (former director of the NSA under Bush) profits from the full-body X-ray machines in airports. The last time I was being illegally molested by a TSA agent because I refused to go through one of the Pervo-Scanners she said: "Am I hurting you?" And I answered: "Yes, you are beating the crap out of my 4th Amendment."

The above stories illustrate that we no longer even have the pretense to the rights to privacy or against illegal search and seizure. Even if the state grants warrants, or passes laws that our privates are now fair game for government perversity, oftentimes these laws directly contravene the Constitution.

However, with the recent reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT ACT, the Constitution has again been rendered "null and void."

The obvious solution to what ails our nation is to end the wars and invest part of the money in education - forgive student loans and provide free/low-cost university education to everyone in this country. Ending the wars will not only have a positive effect on our economy, but we won't be creating enemies faster than we can kill them, so all of this jack-booted police state thuggery would not be necessary.

With the profit motive being so tempting to the Robber Class, it seems like one of the only recourses left to us now is to film everything that happens around us and hide the sim cards of our phones in one of our body's crevices - we can at least be witnesses to and document Obama's rush to total totalitarianism.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Cindy never ceases to amaze me at the level of her willingness to wake up more and more to how bad things are really getting to be in "the land of the (slaves), and the home of the (cowards)". Keep completely telling it like it is, Cindy!

Too many Democrats seem willing to salve their consciences with the idea that "I voted for the black guy who promised hope and change" would be enough to restore the United States to a path of compassion, truth, and justice. Instead, it is becoming increasingly apparent that Mr. Obama's campaign presentation was a sham. Thanks to Cindy Sheehan for standing up for human values and speaking out against those who have shamelessly misrepresented themselves to the voting public.

Many people here won't like this if they haven't already heard, but Cindy also needs to be given great credit for also, some time ago, waking up to the fact that 9-11 was a government inside job, which she now sometimes speaks out about, too. It took her an awful long time, too long, to face the truth about 9-11, but she has done so, and I give her kudos for that as well.

+12 # S. Wolf Britain 2011-06-12 12:42
What's the matter, those denigrating my comment by "thumbs-downing" it? What I said is nothing but a fact! Do you think I'm making it up because you hadn't yet heard this about Cindy before; and because, if it is true, you would have to turn on Cindy? What cowards! Get with the truth that 9-11 was indeed an inside job, and that the official fairy tale is nothing but a cover-up! At least Cindy hasn't been cowardly!

Don't you realize that if "even" Cindy Sheehan has come to recognize that 9-11 was an inside job, that she didn't come to that realization and declaring it in the court of public opinion easily, and that it must be true that it was an inside job because someone like Cindy Sheehan wouldn't say she's come to realize that it was, if it wasn't?! Totally face ALL of the fascism, and don't look down on Cindy for ANY truth!!

Thank you, MUCH, to those "thumbs-upping" my previous comment!! I'm VERY, and truly, grateful!!

Thanks for pointing out the obvious fact that 9/11 was an inside job, something that progressives seem generally not to be able to acknowledge. Most of the critics of the 9/11 sham report seem to be libertarians, but I think the quest for truth in this matter should appeal to all but the perpetrators and the plutocratic oligarchy behind it. The resistance of the Bush/Cheney Administration to having this catastrophe investigated until they were sure they could control the process should have sent up a red flag! Also, look at who was on the Keene Commission: mostly former under-secretaries of this or that federal department, alternating their "public service" with positions on corporate boards of directors. Watch video of the destruction of WTC 7 and compare it with videos of controlled demolitions. The truth is beyond obvious.

The rise of US totalitarianism is happening rapidly. On the positive side, this route closes off input from the giant intellect of civilization made up of cooperating social people and thus leads to it's own eventual collapse. Witness the here today gone tomorrow collapse of the USSR.

Much more interesting is the comment that a free college education should be available to everyone. We have known
since the middle of the last century that this policy leads to a gentle decline in population, and thus a reduction in stress on the environment.

Instead we see attempts to destroy teacher unions in the United States and the dictatorship it recently established in Honduras. Corporatism is a ponzi scheme that requires faster and faster growth forever. Sociopathic predators who prey on civilization cannot tolerate anything that interferes with faster and faster growth, that is the reason public education is being starved and corporatist education is being promoted.

While I agree with your premise, I think the USSR lasted somewhat longer than 'here today, gone tomorrow'.

Many thanks to Cindy as she points out the erosion of our rights and freedoms in the name of war profiteers. If nothing changes on this note, I can see the day when the US resembles North Korea or India. These countries are saddled with teeming masses of poor living in slums, while their elites maintain a ridiculous military readiness.

Cindy Sheehan is fortunate in being prominent enough to be able to speak with relative safety. Yes, she has been persecuted and most likely will continue to be--and I would hope and expect she has excellent legal representation on retainer.

For the rest of us, like those in possession of cell phones in Miami, all that has to happen is "we saw something shiny in his hand". In fact, it does happen every day.

Am I the only one wondering what the story out of Miami would be if one man had not managed to save his sim card? Am I the only one who is fairly sure it wouldn't be the story we are now getting? I hope not.

For those who believe this is an "inner city thing": several years ago a man was executed by a police officer during a routine traffic stop in a town of 3800 roughly five miles from my home. The officer claimed the suspect pointed a gun at him. Yet the seven bullets that hit the suspect went through the driver's seat, including one through the back of his head, indicating that he had his back to the man who killed him.

After an investigation of several hours, a small revolver was found on the man's lap; blued, despite the officer's claim he saw a "shiny" gun. At least 12 witnesses told police they had seen no gun. All, without explanation, went silent within 24 hours, some of them leaving town.

Just a note - down at the river was talking to homeless man - 50 year old - not in bad shape alcoholic.
He had to PULL his own infected tooth - no agency (even Social Security) does NOT cover dental. Name me one country where this inhuman condition exist.
He blames his situation on government.

+3 # S. Wolf Britain 2011-06-12 07:22
"Activista", that man is very likely eligible for Medicaid; or, if you're in California, MediCal; which DOES cover dental. So, if that man wasn't probably too (falsely) "proud" to apply for that "welfare" assistance, he would have been able to get that tooth dealt with by professionals. When you say "Social Security" doesn't cover dental, you mean that Medicare doesn't cover it, and long hasn't as far as I know. In fact, Medicare has always covered very little for most elderly and disabled people; so that's where Medicaid comes in. The problem is, most elderly and/or younger anti-welfare people are too falsely "proud" to apply for it.

In TN the state run version of Medicaid... TennCare has been dropping people from it's rolls left and right. AND does not cover Dental for adults over either 18 or 21. It is not an option for most.

+6 # Activista 2011-06-12 12:40
In WA - USA - The list of Medicaid CUTS includes:
Adult Dental: Includes all dental services but emergency treatment for most adult clients (age 21 and
older) but exempts clients with developmental disabilities.
- cuts in 2010 and 2011 - under Obama - it seems that his only option was pulling his tooth under the MEDICAID --- still very sick system ....
Adult Hearing: Includes hearing aids, cochlear impla..
Adult Vision: Applies to hardware (eyeglasses: frames and lenses). Eye exams and medical treatment
of the eyes would not be cut.
School-Based Medical Services: Medicaid will no longer reimburse school districts for health care-related services included in a Medicaid enrolled child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Under federal law, these services are the responsibility of school districts.
Medicare Part D Co-Pays: The state will no longer pick up the cost of small prescription co-pays that
range from $1 to $6.30 for Medicaid clients also eligible for Medicare’s Part D drug coverage.
Children’s Health Program: Ends medical coverage March 1 for 27,000 children whose families meet medical income eligibility but don’t qualify for other reasons.

Yes, I should have mentioned that a lot of states, due to budget problems because of a lack of federal funding and/or coverage, have cut out dental as well as (many?) other forms of coverage. My bad. Thank you for correcting me.

My state cut out dental coverage for several years, too, and just reinstated it about a year and a half ago (basic checkup, cleaning, tooth-pulling, fillings, etc.); but they've somehow got many if not all of the few dentists who accept Medicaid refusing to do some things that ARE covered, like my need for a steel crown. I have a large, fully-exposed mercury amalgam filling due to part of a molar breaking off, but my dentist refused to crown it even though it IS covered by Medicaid.

The whole system is getting worse and worse, by design; and soon the entire bottom will fall out, also by design, and there will be no entitlement programs whatsoever. People will be left to fend for themselves on the streets, until they are picked up for "vagrancy" that is, and packed off to FEMA camps where they will be murdered through neglect or worse.

The entire U.S. society is intentionally being brought down; and, as I have long said, we ain't seen nothin' yet, by far! It is going to be intentionally allowed to get much worse in order to give the government the excuse(s) to eradicate many people...

+3 # S. Wolf Britain 2011-06-12 16:13
...Which the state will then hide, deny and/or claim is a "necessity", of course.

Paradox is that I escaped "communist" country where ALL the MEDICAL services were free (doctor came to your house ...) for freedom of expression and travel.
40 years later I got neither.US is spending so much money and energy on health care.
And "few dentists who accept Medicaid" - and few doctors who accept Medicare - i.e. GREEDY doctors and dentists fitting perfectly definition of PSYCHOPATH.

Thank you Cindy for your patriotic resistance to fascism. To fearlessly stand up for your country is a heroic act and I salute you. "Now is the time for all good (people) to come to the aid of their country."

I think that the federal government has been so compromised that it is almost beyond help, and now Republican governors and their evil agents are busily at work destroying state governments. Everything that supports the common good is being attacked and with the mainstream media on their side, many Americans are fed propaganda and kept in the dark. What can we do? Organize! I think that we need to concentrate on our local situations, joining with others to protect our communities. Find good men and women to run for office, get the young people involved, go to town halls and mayor's meetings, start an education drive to let the people know what is really going on. Our local towns and cities are still relatively free of this police state atmosphere but if we don't act soon it may be too late. The middle class is collapsing and it is the lifeblood of democracy. If we want our grandchildren to live free, then we must put our lives on the line to make that happen. Live free or die. I am not being dramatic. The cause is just, the time to act is now. If not us, then who?

Cindy Sheehan points out succinctly just why the US has been getting more and more militarized -especially since Bush-1. The dullards who throw their "Patriotic", lock-step bile at her for taking a stance are the REAL COWARDS, who simply bury their heads ever-deeper in the sand and carefully avoid upsetting the status-quo of power in the wrong hands, watch "reality" TV shows and genuflect deeply to anything in a uniform.
It is this inculcated, mindless worship of the military behemoth and their war-machine which provides less and less resistance to it's destructive dominance and which now includes the police INCLUDING OUR LOICAL TOWNS AND CITIES (I've seen the arsenals in the local cop-shop of our small coastal town in Oregon -and that's just what they'd let me see!).
Remember that famous quote about the WW11 Nazis beginning with "First they came for-!"? Well folks, it's happening here but for people like Cindy Sheehan and the alternative press reminding the dumbed-masses that they are not as free as they like to shout about (except to shop-till-they-drop and watch as much content-free TV as they like).
Collective in-their-face resistance and solidarity are the only weapons we have and we need to support the brave ones like C.S. who put their bodies and minds in the direct line of burgeoning totalitarianism -I've done a fair old bit of this in my time also.

I believe you are correct but the complete collapse would also be a great excuse for the wealthy elite to shoot any of us on sight if we too aren't as wealthy as they would prefer. I would suggest that such a transition could only be pulled off with complete transparency in the light of day. Don't hold your breath.

defending freedom, by Marvin Scott Marvin
it is the poet
not the soldier
who defends our liberty
the poet with his pen
slashes at the roots of evil
while the soldier sits on a branch
shooting at random nuts
the poet stands up and speaks
the poet stands out
to address the crowd
to shout
"there is tarnish on the crown!"
the soldier stands in line
awaiting orders
locked in the chain of command
serving in serfdom
the poet takes no orders
rather he does
exactly what he feels
championing freedom
if you have free speech
it is only because there were poets
who gave it liberal exercise
to prevent the eventual atrophy...

you are free
not because a soldier is willing
to kill or die for an idea
you are free
because of the poets across the ages
willing to be punished
for disagreeing
dissenting
for defending their right to
a difference of opinion
there is no greater champion of freedom than
the poet who stands up to the crowd and
shouts "f@ck you!"
you are free
not because some soldiers died
in a battle for soil
but rather because some poets were imprisoned

I know your questions were rhetorical and to make a point, and were not meant to convey that you don't know the answers to those questions (because I think you do); but, for the sake of those who don't know those answers, I'm going to give a concise, forthright, completely truthful and accurate answer:

It happened through specific, calculated brainwashing leading the majority of the U.S. public to believe in blind nationalism falsely called "patriotism", and to unquestioningly support the U.S. government no matter what, even in the mass murder of millions of innocent people "for (the lie of) the 'good' of the nation and the world", much like the "good" people of Germany were led to believe in the run-up to their version of fascism. And now, as a result, we have our version of fascism growing stronger and stronger every day because most of the "American" people won't wake up and put a stop to it before it's too late, just as the German people refused to do before it was too late.

Please, majority of Americans, prove me wrong, and take this government and country back before it's too late! PLEASE DO IT! DON'T LET FASCISM WIN LIKE THE GERMAN PEOPLE DID! MAKE FASCISM THE LOSER, NOT US!
