Hey, I'll do it. Let me clean house folks. No more war funding, no more nukes, no more fracking, no more badly made and non-repairable products, no more weasel words. In short, community-based and sustainably-based policy working WITH nature and natural systems. Conservation of resources and life, rather than a race to the bottom, full of over consumption and greed.
Let's do it. Money just doesn't mean much, compared to healthy living environments and humans that take care of each other. Just what is so hard about this? Nothin'!
Nothin' except for selfishness and ignorance.
I'll serve this planet and be president, and I bet that I would do a better job than most of the corrupt crooks currently in office. And I will need your help, support, and commitment. Really, it is up to all of us to get off our apathetic, depressed, happy, overwhelmed, passionate, wealthy, poor, ignorant, fearful, scapegoating, etc., asses, and set things to right.
Politics in general is a circus side show run by the criminally insane, and all that seems important is money and corporate profits.
LET'S fix it. Why not folks? If not, shame on all of us.
Do we really like the way the world is running?
We ARE the power folks.
A vote for Sierra Salin would be much less loony than for most policy we have or will get from the nutjobs currently running or in office. We need change folks. Real change.
Not demagogues, fear mongers, or hot air bozos professing, but rarely living their professions.
ARE we REALLY fine with schools begging, while our $ and the blood of our children goes into blowing folks up around the world?
Really. Is this what we value?
Remember the Declaration Of Independence, or the bill of rights? Are they just papers for the recycle bin?

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.
General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.
Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

a clean-cut, suit-wearing, "respectable" type. If you want to get in, you have to look and sound the part.
Worse yet, YOU HAVE TO PAY THE DUES. If you haven't played the game (i.e. sold out) then even your OWN people won't recognize you as a viable candidate, much less take you seriously.
The hypocritical (but endearing) thing about liberals is they won't subordinate themselves to themselves. While conservatives all fall in lock step and can be expected to follow a suit, the only person that hates a liberal more than a conservative is another liberal. That's the conservative in us.
Think about it.
Bottom line is, nature is going to kick our butts, regardless of our stupid rules and laws. Nature cares little what we think.
We are all in this madhouse together, and the joke is on us.
Can we just be kind or watch out for anything beyond our own beliefs and ignorance?
Are you me? No, but perhaps a very kindred soul. And I am a former Fairfaxian who agrees with you a whole bunch.
I have come not just recently to the conclusion that the Amerikan nation no longer bears a good resemblance to what it started out to be - a great experiment in liberty and justice for all. In 200+ years since its its declaration of independence, we have returned to the 18th century, in all its glory, replete with monarchs, plutocrats, indentured servants, slaves, and periodic witch-burnings and beheadings to keep the rabble in line.
In place of an independent free nation we have instead a populace whose primary sense of reality and spirit is based on a web of lies that has been systematically indoctrinated on them for generations. If it is on TV it must be true! They tune in on cue for pageants parading criminally insane would-be monarchs, despots, and dictators under the assumption that such displays lead to exercising some vaguely understood "right to vote" that will deliver freedom Or at least deliver to us a ruler that will make us breed uncontrollably and kill residents of other lands in the name of the lord, who must be prayed to in schools instead of studying Darwin's Theories or critical thinking.
The same lord who knows all our thoughts, but instead of taking any action of note appoints a ruler from among the contestants to take us backwards in time where persons who might someday have gay children who want to marry could be summarily executed as a preventative measure. (Oh wait - no need to go back in time for that!)
When the pageantry is over, it's back to the salt mInes to suffer, pray, and curse whatever demon the gods of popular religion send forth. Reality is too impossible to figure out so it must be a lie perpetrated by Oh yes we are all so free.
That crap is so over for me, forever.
Some of us were born to stir up sht. So I am making it my magnus opus to rouse the rabble yet again.
Today is Mardi Gras.
I cannot stand around with a question mark in a balloon over my head, nor avert my eyes, as a government, whose only claim to sovereignity should be the best welfare of its citzens, gives us no comfort and looks after the privileged class first and always. It steals money from its citizens to do the bidding of the uber-wealthy, and acts as if deaf, blind, mute and befuddled as the fruits of their thefts manifest on We the People.
We watched in horror as the poor and less Caucasian of New Orleans were left to perish in floods that could probably been prevented. Not long after we saw the oil empires who own us dump zillions of barrels of toxic oil and chemicas into the Gulf of Mexico, extincting species and poisoning the oceans in ways our eyes might not see so plainly as the slicks on top. Most of the little people didn't even hear that the powers that be determined that any humiliation cast on them should end and deep water drilling start up again.
By the time some us watched in horror as a 9.0 earthquake, tsunami, and enormous nuclear meltdown caused total devestation of northern Japan, the little people were done holding telethons and fundraisers for its survivors. Too many disasters in such a short time. We can't help everyone, after all. And by last week when scientists (you know, those evil lying bastards who tried to shove global warming down our throats) informed us that the debris and toxic waste from Japan is about to wash up on the shores of the Left Coast, I suspect I may have been one among 5-10 citizens who even wondered what impact that might have and what could I do about it.
All the while, nuclear empires built on the corroding infrastructure that is a fundamental of "energy policy" rushed to get their permits to operate renewed just in case me and a few others could use Fukushima to somehow shut them down before they could submit the forms. I bet they were surprised that only Germany was brave and awake enough to say Enough! to their ticking time-bombs. Rejoice! Amerika sleeps on.
CLASSIFIED: Osama Bin Laden, the big bad boogieman of 9/11/2001, is gone. His position is now open for applicants. Qualifications required: Ability to inflict deep insecurity and fear on millions of brainwashed zombies. Must be willing to accept large amounts of cash and assistance from sponsors in exchange for exciting hide-and-seek adventures in poorly-studied locations that will conclude at some undecided time with suicide or assassination by the sponsors in front of a live television audience. Salary: Competitive.
What, me worry? HELL NO! I am alive and awake, intelligent and compassionate, and I want something better for us.
Sierra, I am ready to join with you and my fellow beings to form a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to Truth and Reason and Logic and Consciousness and Care of our Planet and its inhabitants, and yes, Liberty and Justice or ALL. God can join if s/he wants but only has one vote. We can even use the Constitution of the United States of America as a model - I believe its current guardians threw it out.
Therefore, I submit my application to be your co-president in this quest. Not to rule, but to lead. Not to conquer,but to explore and discover. Not to profit from, but to serve those who join us of their own free will. To remain in that service, as long as the planet and our fellow beings will have us.
May we bless each other with our gifts of awareness and purposeful action and set sail to a new nation.
ALL religions are but tarrying good, bad, or terrible translations of NATURE, and ultimately, they may all be the same, and get to the same big bang for the buck. In the meantime, we sure appear to be currently translating Nature into non life sustaining and lifeless piles on inanimate landfills and stuffs, which are sitting around in piles with free signs on many corners of the whirled, where there were once functioning ecosystems of earth, air, water, fire, and breath, flowing, alive with DIVERSITY.
The writing is on the walls of nature, in plain view, for us to make cents out of. Or, perhaps the writings of nature, are not there for us to make cents out of, but to steward, take care of, observe, witness, and stand up for, as noncents, but as a whole with a greater value than lifeless stuff and our convenience, but somehow with basic rights to exist unmolested, in and of them/its-elves?
We have reduced our whole whirled to $ values, to be exploited and profited from, at our whims. Fenced off, owned. Mine, and mined, keep off, and keep out, if you don't mind. "private" "property...." We do not own anything, except for perhaps our viewpoints, and even those for only 80 or 100 head trips around and around, and, we sure are leaving a mess. Sure, la la ill all ha ha, it's all perfect, and, well, it's really hard for this one to witness.
