Hot Beverage for Freezing Protesters

October 17 was the first really cold windy wet day for Occupy Philly. So I filled up a tea pot and some glass bottles with boiling water, put a cooler in a shopping cart, along with tea bags and took the bus to city hall. And freezing protesters really appreciated it. Several didn't even have a hat on,

I was never homeless but was many years ago stuck out doors with no money for public transportation home, had to beg and fought with myself to resist eating out of trash cans. Only once finished off a cup of coffee a commuter left on the bench when he hurried to enter the bus.
During the Depression and before the homeless and protesters had bond fires to keep them warm. Before the cold snap I mentioned this around Occupy Philly but some ecotypes thought even a portable heater was bad for the environment. So I went to the Ron Paul tent, but they said come back when the person in charge was around.
Midnight the tea pot was empty so I left the tea bags and water bottles and took my shopping cart to the Ron Paul tent. It was dark and I didn't want to wake anyone up but a small beam of light revealed a lantern and a toasty warm environment for them only, not the rest of the crowd. Ron Paul will be toasty warm if he ever gets to be President but not the rest of us.
Cheri Honkala who is running for sheriff under the Green Party banner, vowing not to evict families like several communities stopped doing during the first depression. Occupy Philly insists she is only an ordinary protester.
In Philly the other protesters and the press yawn at Green Party participation. But a Green Party candidate at Occupy Canada is big news,

I wonder if in bitter cold Victoria Park in Canada whether Green Party candidate Daniel Johnson has anything to do with hot chocolate or hot tea.
PS Some may think that this blog is out of place considering that Occupiers in places like Oakland have a lot more to worry about than freezing in the cold. However, occupations in many cities and nicks and carnies haven't been harassed or attacked by the police,

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.
General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.
Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.
